Environmental Wellness
Using limited resources wisely and taking action to reduce waste will help ensure
that future generations will enjoy an environment as clean and plentiful as the one
we enjoy now.
However, while many people focus on reducing outdoor pollution, science shows
that indoor pollution can often be more prevalent and more dangerous. Consider
these facts:
• The Victorian Poisons Information Centre received 568 calls regarding exposure
to all purpose/hard surface cleaners and 442 calls regarding exposure to bleach
(hypochlorite based) in one year alone.
Annual Report 2004
• As new reports come forth on the dangers of phosphates, countries like
Switzerland, Norway, Venezuela, and the United States (12 states so far)
have completely banned the use of phosphates in detergents.
• Over 600,000 New Zealanders and over two million Australians have asthma and
in Australia the trend is doubling every 15 years. In Australia 314 people died due
to asthma in 2003.

Considering such statistics, many families are searching for more environmentally
responsible cleaning products. Melaleuca’s EcoSense
® line offers laundry and
dishwashing detergents that are phosphate-free, plus stain removers, grease-killers
and whitening agents with no formaldehyde, ammonia, chlorine, lye or bleach—
ingredients often used in supermarket brands.
Melaleuca uses the cleaning properties of natural ingredients like baking soda, vinegar
and citrus solvents. These ingredients create products that are safer and more effective.
Customers repeatedly tell stories of getting stains out with Melaleuca products when
other products failed. Clothes come out of the washer clean and bright—without
irritating the skin.
In addition, Melaleuca products are made without the water fillers so often found
in other brands. Highly concentrated, and biodegradable, the products cost less
per use while saving landfills from expensive buildup of large containers.
